Helping Families Find Harmony at Home

Welcome - I‘m Karen Campbell, founder of Child Behaviour Service NZ.

I love supporting families to gain the knowledge and skills they need to create a calmer, happier home.

My approach is simple but powerful: I work with parents, not ‘at’ them. Using a proven coaching model with a genuine track record of success, I‘ll walk alongside you to bring about real, lasting change.

I have worked for Ministry of Education training whole schools in well researched methods of Positive Behaviour Support, lead teams of RTLB to support evidence based practice and worked in the area of high behaviour needs at Ministry of Education. For me to be effective in these areas I underwent significant training in functional behaviour assessment and analysis. This training is science based and has underpinned my approach with positive behaviour change.

Why Families Choose to Work With Me

When you work with me, your family benefits from many years of hands-on experience and specialist training in child behaviour change. My qualifications include:

  • A Master of Education degree, with post graduate study in child psychology and counselling and functional behaviour analysis.
  • Twenty-five years in specialist learning and behaviour roles.
  • Specialist training in supervision techniques, developed through senior roles as a Practice Leader and Cluster Manager.

My methods are well-researched and evidence-based, which means the strategies I share with you are designed to actually work.

A Plan Tailored to Your Family

A behaviour plan is written based on the needs of your child and your family from the assessment consultation. This means your plan is individualised for your family and your values: This is done by:

  • Interviews and consultations
  • Observation from audio or video (confidential)
  • Functional behaviour assessment – why are the behaviours continuing?

Specialist Areas

I‘m experienced in supporting parents of strong willed children and neurodivergent children including:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • Sensory issues
  • Developmental delay
  • A strong temperament

My approach is grounded in research, I‘m able to assist confidently across all of these areas. I maintain children who have strong temperaments have many positive traits that will help them in life. Parents sometimes need extra knowledge and skills to help their children learn positive behaviours as they learn to navigate the world.

    How I Can Help

    For Parents

Personalised, one-on-one coaching and tailored behaviour plans based on assessment to bring more harmony into your home.

    Online Courses for Parents

Courses offering practical insight into ‘why’ children and young people behave the way they do - including how to recognise and manage the escalation cycle when a child is feeling angry.

    For Schools & Educators

Assisting schools and classes to establish systems that promote positive behaviours. Sometimes classes can develop challenging behaviours from a few students. I can help teachers re-establish boundaries and develop positive class cultures with the assistance of school leadership. This can feel transformational for teachers working at the coalface every day.

    Theory Into Practice

What sets my service apart is real-world experience. Having worked closely with both teachers and families to promote positive behaviour change, I‘ve applied the theory to everyday practice - so I know what works, and how to troubleshoot effectively when challenges arise.
